MEET - CHUCK AND CONNIE HUDDLESON
Chuck and Connie met in 1984 and brought their families together in l986. They have four grown, married Children that have given them six of the “Greatest”
Grandkids ever - ranging in age from 20 thru 7. If you want to see their faces light up – just ask them about their Grandkids. Chuck is a semi-retired Attorney who still practices Law part-time out of his Home office. Connie has been sewing since she was five – which is almost 54 years. In 1999, Chuck and Connie formed Starry Pines Pattern Company, celebrating their 10th year in 2009. This Design Company fueled with Connie’s Quilt Pattern Designs has been selling her patterns Internationally along with many Magazine Article adventures and even an HGTV segment on That’s Clever. Her artistic creativity is the main-stay of who she is. She lives to create and design and it shows in everything that she touches, her family, her friends, her Home and her Businesses both The Little Wool Shoppe and Starry Pines Pattern Co.
Connie loves Applique and Embroidery. Her designs are not limited to these two techniques, but she prides herself in bringing a bit of the “A” & “E” words to everything that she designs. Altho, her first Fabric Love is “wool” she incorporates, Flannels, Wovens and Cottons. And she loves nothing more than those treasures that she finds at “Flea Markets” and gives them new life with Penny Rug Toppers.
Most of her Designs are what she refers to as “Travel” projects for that Multi tasking woman. Get the project fused on and toss it into a sewing bag equipped with Perle Cotton, Scissors and Needles and it will go along with you to fill in empty moments. A few stitches here and there and you will have it done before you know it! And….for those of you that like to Blanket Stitch on your sewing machine – go for it….the Designs are easy to machine stitch.
Connie’s “Dream Wall” has been loaded over the years with ambitious projects that she has wanted to accomplish or touch on in her lifetime. After purchasing their 100 year old building in 2007, renovating it (another item on Connie’s Dream Wall) and moving The Little Wool Shoppe into this incredible space she went about hoping to accomplish her next Dream – Quilt Sampler’s Top Ten.
Celebrate with us, our Families, our Staff and our Customers the dream coming to fruition in the pages of Spring 2009 Quilt Sampler. Travel through our “One of a Kind Shoppe” in the pages – and if your travels bring you nearby, please stop in and meet Connie, Chuck and the Staff. You won’t regret it.
P.S. You may even meet a Grandchild or two!!

DO YOU KNOW THE HISTORY OF A
PENNY RUG? Wool
goes way back….to Medieval Times.
They had sheep with very warm coats of wool. They
sheared the sheep, harvested the wool into fabric, which was very warm and a bit
waterproof. Made clothing.
And when that clothing wore out
- it was cut up to be used for “Rugs” – their term for blanket or quilt.
They covered themselves with rugs of great warmth and design.
The Pennies – well they did not have template plastic back in those days
so they used whatever they had to draw around for a pattern.
The “pennies” were coins used to draw around to create the circles that
you see on so many wool designs.
Viola!!! Wool goes back farther than
Cotton in blanket making. A
dying art! Well I hope not!!

The Bag below (grey) is my Sweater Tote bag with zippers and leather
handles. It is made from a Felted
Wool Sweater and is also not available as a pattern yet.

Shown in
this photo is the “Flannel version” of this project.
Originally, it was all Wool – Background, Appliques, Sashing and Borders.
Because crème wool can scorch easily we quickly recommended that the
Background Blocks, Sashing and Borders be flannel instead.
All the Baskets and Basket Fillers are then appliquéd in Wool.
This themed project is a “Basket Lovers” perfect quilt.
It is easy to prepare the blocks and then stitch away!!
